What We Provide
Reading Tutoring
Reading instruction targets phonemic awareness, decoding skills, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, sight-word development, and reading fluency skills. Using a variety of approaches including; Lindamood-Bell (LIPs), Orton-Gillingham, and Seeing Stars.
Kirby Tutoring provides personal or small group assistance to students who struggle to read. I provide literacy assistance for your students to become fluent and confident readers and have the comprehension skills required to understand what is being read.
Writing Tutoring
Instruction in writing fundamentals will include skill development and reinforcement in creating and developing sentences and paragraphs. Student will use scientifically based approaches including Framing Your Thoughts (FYT) and Orton Gillingham (OG) Sentence development includes parts of speech, grammar, syntax, vocabulary and error correction. Paragraph development includes topic sentences, supporting details and conclusions, making transitions within and between paragraphs,. The use of graphic organizers as tools, help students plan a written piece. incorporating four types of written expression including expository, narrative, persuasive, and descriptive.
Comprehension Tutoring
Instruction in comprehension supports students in becoming independent, and strategic in using a variety of approaches to understand what they read.

To achieve this goal, comprehension instruction must begin as soon as students begin to read and it must: be explicit, intensive, and persistent. This helps students to become aware of text organization. Some programs used to develop comprehension include; Visualizing and Verbalizing, 6 Way Paragraphs, and Orton-Gillingham.
